The founders, George and Elizabeth Ross bought an existing Bakery in Auchleven (Premnay) near Insch in 1962. The Bakery had its own shop and retail vans, which sold bakery produce and other goods to farms and houses in the local area. Growth came quick with lots of hard work and there were soon additional vans and shops in Insch and Inverurie. With Aberdeen now being much more accessible the business began to expand, acquiring shops and wholesale customers in Aberdeen and the surrounding areas. In 1973 the company moved to premises at Elphinstone Road, Inverurie to accommodate the quickly expanding business.
In 1997 the business of LD Forrest became available. George Ross and Leslie Forrest had served their apprenticeships together and knew each other well over the years and so J.G. Ross was given the opportunity to acquire the Forrest The Baker bakery and shops in Portsoy, Banff and Buckie.
In 1998 the (sandwich) business "A Food Affair" became available as the owner, Penny Cox, had recently become a mother and wanted to spend more time at home, so she sold the business to J.G. Ross.
In 2003 the business "Rendall's Fine Foods" also became available and Garry and Sheila Rendall sold the business to J.G. Ross. With eighteen employees came the Kemnay and Alford shops, a whole host of new products and new customers.
Over the subsequent 4 years JG Ross's growth continued at a great pace resulting in the development and construction of a new £4 million state-of-the-art bakery facility at Highclere Business Park, Inverurie which we moved into in March 2007.
In 2008 came the acquision of Coopers bakery in Insch, Aberdeenshire, increasing our over all number of shops to a very impressive 27.
The company is now managed by the two sons of George and Elizabeth, Graeme and Cameron Ross. The JG Ross vision and determination remains as strong as ever, to be recognised as a major Scottish Food Producer, proving the utmost freshness using traditional methods and recipes in a craft industry and to offer the highest quality of products and services to all our customers at all times. We believe our bakery facility in Inverurie together with our bakery in Portsoy will enable us to continue creating high quality products for generations to come.
We currently sell our delicious products from a growing wholesale customer base across the North East of Scotland, along with our own shops which include Ross's Coffee Shop in Inverurie and Emma's Coffee Shop in Buckie.
